In a word, Citrix GoToMyPC is solid. GoToMyPC is a strong application, that takes into account the necessary security measures and quality needs of enterprise customers.

Citrix GoToMyPC gives people remote access to their always-on PC - when they’re at home, travelling, or from a mobile device - so that they can access their data and applications.

But before you choose Citrix GoToMyPC, here are the key things you need to know.

First - ask yourself seriously if you need to store critical data and services on a PC. Desktop and laptop hardware isn’t up to the same quality as server equipment. It can fail, and cost you critical information. In many cases, you’re much safer moving your critical data and services off your PC and into the cloud. Look into desktop virtual machine services, and file storage and sync cloud services.

Second, we’re happy with the level of security that GoToMyPC offers. We’ve reviewed Citrix’s security measures for GoToMyPC, and they are enterprise strength. We’re happy with their data centres, level of encryption, application security, high-availability setup and practices.

Third, we highly recommend that you configure and use GoToMyPC following the security guidelines, and keep a close eye on security logs for suspicious activity. Make sure you keep your passwords safe, access the service from trusted devices whenever possible, and make use of the One-Time-Password functionality when you’re connecting from somewhere you don’t trust.

Finally, I recommend that you look at second-factor authentication. GoToMyPC supports RSA SecurID for additional security, and while this can add cost, it does make the service more secure.
