What To Look For

I recommend that you review recruitment software in two stages. First, a feature review to make sure the software does what you need it to. Secondly, a review of how the software will integrate with your people, processes and technology.

Features

I've found that features are very similar between different recruitment vendors. What does differentiate one from another is how they implement the features, and how easy-to-use they are. Look for:
  • Branded careers website
  • Posting to job boards and social media (especially LinkedIn)
  • Employee referral programs
  • Managing all types of hires - permanent, hourly, contingent, and internal
  • Import and process resumes
  • Good searching features
  • Screening and assessment
  • Tracking applicants
  • Manage offers
  • Mail / letter templates
  • Collect and manage feedback for applicants
  • Mobile support
  • Reporting, Analytics
  • Onboarding portal and workflow

Fits your people, process and technology

Expect that the organisational fit will probably be the deciding factor for your recruitment software selection. I recommend that you review the following checklist:
  • Does it fit your existing workflow?
  • Can be made to match your corporate brand (especially careers portal)?
  • Will it integrate with your existing HR systems?
  • Will it integrate with appropriate resume databases?
  • How easy is it to use? Usability is so crucial! Make sure you review the application from a hiring manager's point of view, and an applicant's point of view.
  • Is it compliant with your legal and regulatory needs? Does it offer relevant reporting?

For Small Recruitment Teams

We really like iCIMS, because of its great track record, strong security and behind-the-scenes performance, and long list of happy customers. Unlike many of the other dedicated recruitment software vendors, iCIMS also provides good onboarding functionality, an addition that I’m really pleased to see.

If you’re in the market for enterprise-grade recruitment software, the others on our shortlist are Bullhorn (comprehensive, and great for specialised recruiters), CATS one (very nice applicant tracking software) and Jobvite (especially for its social features).

Talent Management Suites cover a much broader set of functionality than just recruitment - they include the comprehensive features to attract, retain and develop staff. Some Talent Management Suites are also integrated with HR administration, payroll and time/attendance features.

Neogov provide recruitment, selection and applicant tracking for United States public-sector.

HiringBoss are a growing niche recruitment provider specalising in the Asian market.

TalentSoft provide a Talent Management Suite, that includes recruitment functionality to the EU market.

Conducting Interviews
